Coach Michael B. Avery

My name is Michael B. Avery. I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I attended St. George Middle School and Catholic High School. My coaching career began with one year of middle school football at St. George Middle. Immediately after graduating high school, I transitioned into coaching freshman baseball at Catholic High School. I later spent five years coaching at Port Allen High School, further strengthening my passion for developing young athletes both on and off the field.
During my time as a player at Catholic High, I had the privilege of competing under National and State Champion Coach Brad Bass. Under Coach Bass, I was blessed to be part of four-district championships and two State Championship runner-up teams—experiences that shaped my understanding of discipline, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
Throughout my upbringing in USSSA baseball, I had the opportunity to play for former Broadmoor High and LSU standouts Ryan Theriot and Trey Ducan. I was also coached by former Dutchtown High star and New York Mets draft pick Kyle Suire, whose leadership played a major role in my development as both a player and a young man.
In addition, I’ve had the privilege of developing a meaningful relationship with College Baseball Hall of Famer Roger Cador, who reminded me that although baseball is a game of competition, it is the joy and love for the sport—rooted in childhood—that keeps us connected to it.
I grew up loving this game, and the men who taught me the game instilled lessons that extend far beyond the field. They taught me that pressure is a choice and failure is inevitable; what defines you is how you respond to it.
